Métis: from St. Laurent, Manitoba (my mother's paternal Grandparents were featured on the mural on the Métis Federation offices in Winnipeg, Manitoba, (image originally from the “Famous Métis of Manitoba” publication).

My grandparents owned and operated a fur and handicraft store called, “Rogers Furs” in The Pas, Manitoba for many years. They later sold the store to my uncle Kenny, who moved it to Flin Flon. The store, was once featured in a NFB documentary on industries in northern Manitoba (1969).

My father's parents lived in Dunrea, Manitoba, south of Brandon. His father was originally from Trois Rivières region in Quebec.

Family Background: Originally from northern Manitoba; from a family of 9 children. My father supported such a large family by working for Manitoba Hydro; in the communities of The Pas, Grand Rapids, Gillam and Thompson.

My mother Doreen was trained as a nurse, and aspired to be an artist from early childhood. She held weekly community art evenings in Grand Rapids, which included artists like Daphne Odjig. My mother later attended Fine Arts with me at the U. of Manitoba. She travelled with me to New York city in 2008 to attend Colleen Cutschall's curated exhibition on aboriginal dresses. Unfortunately my mom passed on unexpectedly in 2015.
